CALL FOR PAPERS & PARTICIPATION

As part of
The International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS 2014)

July 21 – July 25, 2014
The Savoia Hotel Regency
Bologna, Italy

Extended Submission Deadline: March 25, 2014

Submissions could be for full papers, short papers, poster papers, or posters

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES

Many algorithms have been proposed and appear in the state of the art of many application domains such as image processing, cryptography, pattern recognition, signal processing, document analysis, etc… In order to quantify the performance and the benefits of a new algorithm, it is necessary in general to test it on a large benchmark.  In most cases, the size of existing benchmarks is really important. As an example, in the filed of biometrics, the performance of a matching algorithm is estimated through one million of comparisons on a benchmark dataset containing biometric samples of a large number of individuals.  It becomes difficult to achieve this testing in a research lab or in an engineering department due to computational constraints and lack of adequate resources.  One solution is to use high performance computing systems such as those employed in grid computing.  Most recently, cloud computing has been getting popular.

This special session focuses on research works aimed at defining high performance computing systems and cloud computing for benchmarking.  Furthermore, benchmarking related contributions concerning the definition of new open platforms, studies on the distribution of computation tasks and applications in different fields in computer science or from other domains are sought.

The HPBench topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Open Platforms for Distributed Benchmarking
  • Benchmarking on the Cloud
  • Benchmarking Web Services
  • Virtualization for Distributed Benchmarking
  • Data Distribution for Benchmarking
  • Evaluation Platforms
  • Performance of Benchmarking Applications on Clouds (Ex: NAS parallel benchmarks)
  • Scalability of Parallel Applications on Public or Private Clouds
  • Benchmarking Scientific Parallel Applications
  • Performance Measurements, Monitoring, Modeling and Simulation
  • Distributed Troubleshooting and Best Practices
  • Applications (not limited to): image processing, pattern recognition, cryptography, biometrics, etc.

PAPER SUBMISSIONS
You are invited to submit original and unpublished research works on above and other topics related to benchmarking and high performance computing systems and cloud computing for benchmarking.  Submitted papers must not have been published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere.  Submission should include a cover page with authors' names, affiliation addresses, fax numbers, phone numbers, and authors email addresses.  Please, indicate clearly the corresponding author and include up to 6 keywords from the above list of topics and an abstract of no more than 400 words.  The full manuscript should be at most 8 pages using the two-column IEEE format.  Additional pages will be charged at additional fee.  Short papers (up to 4 pages), poster papers and posters (please refer to http://hpcs2014.cisedu.info/home/posters  for the posters submission details) will also be accepted for submission.  In case of multiple authors, an indication of which author(s) is responsible for correspondence must be indicated.   Please include page numbers on all submissions to make it easier for reviewers to provide helpful comments.

Authors are invited to submit a PDF copy of their manuscript to the workshop using the following link:  http://cisedu.us/cis/hpcs/14/users/upload.jsp .  In the form you fill out, please indicate that the submission is for HPBench  2014 in the Notes/Comments field  of the uploading form.   If the submission is for a poster paper or short paper, indicate that as well on the manuscript and in the form's Notes field.

Only PDF files will be accepted.  Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews.  Papers will be selected based on their originality, relevance, contributions, technical clarity and presentation.  Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted.  Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be registered and presented at the special session.

Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.  Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted on the HPCS 2014 web site.  It is our intent to have the proceedings formally published in hard and soft copies and be available at the time of the conference.  The proceedings is to be published as ISBN proceedings by the IEEE and will be available online through IEEE Digital Library and indexed by major indexing services accordingly (e.g., EI indexing).

If you have any questions about paper submission or the special session, please contact the Special Session organizers.
